The Power of Resurrection - Sermon

From last week we read from 1 Corinthians 4:20 that the kingdom is not just in words but power, power to create. We are true representatives of the Kingdom and we do not just talk about it but demonstrate its power. In the midst of sickness you are a representative of the healing power of the kingdom. Philippians 3: 8-10. There are things that Paul lost; there are some things we lose and think that Satan has attacked us yet,

everything works for the good of those that love the Lord.  Paul mentions that the things he lost were rubbish because he wanted to be found in the righteousness of Christ and not his own by the law.  There is the righteousness we receive in Christ so our focus should be on what Jesus did for us on the cross. We receive this righteousness by faith. When we believe what Jesus did for us on the cross, we receive this righteousness by faith not by feeling. When you believe in the Lord, you know His truth and the truth works for you. Some things leave our lives but it is not a loss as we gain in Christ.

Verse 10 says that I may know him and the power of his righteousness. When you know Him, and receive the righteousness of Christ by faith you get to understand the power of his resurrection. Paul had seen many things in his life but he still yearned to see more.  We should never be deceived that we have arrived in knowing God. We are all still growing every day.  Even men of God like Moses Elulo and Benny Hinn still seek God every day, otherwise they would have said they have arrived.  Even in our wealth we should never feel that we have arrived.  We need to compare ourselves to the richest men on the globe and ask ourselves, ‘where am I?’ The power of God is progressive, what we saw yesterday is not the same as today. I believe that every day I grow in power and authority.   Whatever happened in the past, glory to God, but we too grow in each day.  So Paul says, knowing the power, he had seen the miracles but he wanted to grow more. It should be the desire of every one that we should be found in the presence of God, growing in him every day.

Paul wants to know him and then understand the power. We need to first know Him and then understand his power. If we do not know him, we shall not understand his power; we shall see it and think that it is demonic, false prophets. If you believe in the Lord and understand his power, go ahead and use it. If you believe that you can start the company, go ahead and start it and be a representative of God’s power. God says that the latter day church shall be more powerful. We are the latter day church and we need to demonstrate this power. So that when people see us they see the glory of God, the true representatives of the Kingdom.

The prophetic acts in this power. We believe the Lord and in His power. The prophetic takes away darkness in the name of Jesus.  Before God created the world there was darkness. But when he spoke, there was light.  When you chase away the prophetic from your life, there is darkness in your life. Even most churches that have rejected the prophetic have darkness in their church.  There is the word, there is organization but then people still receive the dark dreams in the night. We should not reject the prophetic.

In Matthew 12:29, Jesus asks how one can enter a strong man’s house without first binding him.

The strong man here is the devil. You need to first bind him and then get what we want.  There are many things today that belong to us that the devil has taken hold of. In Genesis God gave man power of over everything.  When the devil tempted Jesus in the wilderness in the devil showed him all the kingdoms of the earth saying that all the authority had been given to him (Luke 4:5). All this was given to Satan by Adam.  Today we have all the power and authority to claim that which was given to us. It is our right to get back all that belongs to us.  We thank God for our elder bother Jesus because he did it all for us by dying and rising again.  In Mathew 28 He says that all power and authority has been given to Him.  This same authority is in our hands.  He is always with us in this battle as He said that He’ll never leave us nor forsake us; he is with us till the end of the ages. It is the will of God for us to drive, to build houses, to own cities, to have the wonderful wedding.  This is not for the rich people alone or for us to keep consoling ourselves that material things will not get us into heaven.  The will of God is for all of us to prosper.  It is time to arise and take back what belongs to you as the enemy has nothing.

Let us keep progressing in the Kingdom of God. Focus on the present and not dwell in the past.  If something that you believed for did not happen yesterday, believe him for today.  If the last Easter was bad, believe him for a better one this year.
