Jesus the Cure, Understanding Him as the Son of God - Sermon

Prophet Alpha Greeting: We welcome you yet again to Eagles Wings Prophetic Ministry.  I thank God that many of you are testifying and that you are being blessed.  Some are giving personal testimonies and even at the national level, (fulfillment of the floods in the north) we are being blessed. So we are blessed both at the personal and national level. You know someone said that what you believe you become.

If you believe that God loves you and does not want you to lack then you shall not lack.  I too believe that and it works for me.  Let me share a testimony with you; last Friday I prayed for those believing for dollars and encouraged them to sow.  On Saturday something happened; a brother called me asking to meet me and we agreed to meet in Kasubi.  All he wanted to do was to bless me and he did so in dollars.  As if that was not enough, another sister called me, on the same day and I met her in Nakulabye.  She too had a heavy envelope, Amen.  Things are happening.  Believe God. Jesus said in Mark 10:27, with men it is impossible but with God ALL things are possible!  Nothing is impossible in God; no situation is permanent.  Today someone is testifying, tomorrow it will be you testifying about the goodness of the Lord and a word of the Lord coming to pass.

Sermon – Pastor Bruce Kurtzer – Miracle Church - Australia

Reference: John 9:1-6

Jesus disciples, moving with Jesus saw the blind man and they asked Jesus who sinned to cause the man’s blindness, his parents or the blind man. You see the disciples had worked it out that disease had come into the world through the curse and the curse came as a result of sin.  So when they saw the blind man they asked who sinned; in their minds somebody had to have sinned for this man to be blind.  When Jesus said that neither the man nor his parents had sinned, He did not mean that this man and his parents were perfect. Romans 3:23 says ALL have sinned.  Both the man and his parents therefore had sinned but Jesus was saying that the cause of his blindness was so that the glory of God may be seen; that the work of God may be displayed.

Jesus’ disciples were focused on the cause; when they saw the blind man they were more focused on the cause.  But Jesus was more concerned about the cure; He was concerned about the fact that the man could get a miracle.  You see, sometimes we focus more on the cause of the problem; we get to busy focusing on the cause and we forget that Jesus is the cure. The disciples were moving with Jesus, they had Him all the time; they had the man that carried the cure and God’s power.  Yet they were looking at the curse.  When they saw the blind man all they needed to do was to turn to Christ.  When you have a problem, you can choose to focus on the curse; but I pray today that you choose to focus on Jesus who is the cure!

Jesus was perfect. He could have healed the blind man by a wave of a hand or just ordering him to see or even by just telling his disciples to heal him. There are many ways in which Jesus could have healed the blind man and it does not matter what way he could have used, the blind man would have been healed because Jesus did it.  So I ask the question, why did Jesus spit on the ground?  The word of God is true and that fact that it says that Jesus spit on the ground tells me that there must be something important in that action.  There may be something important about the method.  I love watching healing ministers, but in all the time that I have watched them, I have never seen one that spits on the ground to heal. I wonder how many people would want to be healed by an evangelist that spits or has the spitting anointing! But why did Jesus spit?

By Jesus spitting, he made two remarkable claims. Where He was, there was a crowd of people; come people saw it this way and others saw it another way.  Whichever way that they saw it, said something about Jesus. The first thing is, when the disciples saw the blind man, they asked who sinned. In those days, spitting in someone’s face is considered a curse. Even today, no one would be excited about someone spitting in their face.  There is an interesting scripture in Deuteronomy 25: 5-9; in verse nine, when the brother in law refused to honor his duty, the widow would spit in his face.  This was a sign of a curse upon his household.  So when Jesus spat on the ground and rubbed it into the man’s eyes, those who knew the culture they understood that Jesus is saying “you are right, this man is cursed”  But when he said go and wash away the mud, what did He wash away? He washed away the spit and I tell you now, God’s word will wash the curse away. That is why He told the blind man to wash the mud away.  I believe that this man had a double curse; 1) because Jesus spat and 2) he spat on the ground.  Remember when Adam and Eve sinned the whole earth was cursed including the ground.

So Jesus mixed spit and ground and rubbed on the man’s eyes and then He said go and wash in the pool of Siloam which means ‘Sent’.    So when Jesus says go and wash and you honor the word of the Lord and you go and wash, it doesn’t matter how much you have been cursed, the curse is chased away!!  You no longer need to live under that curse because it has been cleansed away. What Jesus did for this blind man, He chased the WHOLE curse away. The second thing is: in biblical times it was possible for a man to have several sons by several wives. But sometimes the sons would have an argument over which one is the first born or the legitimate heir of the father.  Then there was a superstition which said, bearing in mind that some of the people that were with Jesus would know this superstition that the spit of a legitimate heir could heal.  So when the sons fought over which one was the legitimate heir, no one wanted to prove he was.  When you read this story, in Chapter 8 Jesus talks of His origin as there were many questions of who was His father because him being born of a virgin was hard to accept.  Then in John Chapter 9 He spits and heals the blind man and then in the later verses of chapter 9, the Jews get upset.

They were not upset that the blind man was healed but they were upset of HOW the blind man was healed. John Chapter 9 verse 26, they ask what did He use to heal you, how did he open your eyes.  They were asking how He was healed.  The Jews were concerned that Jesus healed using spit because by doing that He was claiming He was the rightful heir of His Father.  And that is who Jesus is.  That is why after asking the blind man the questions, they say “we know God spoke to Moses, but for this man Jesus, we do not even know where he comes from.”  IN Mark chapter 8, there is a similar story of healing the blind man and in the following verses/chapter Jesus asks the disciples, who do people say I am?  Again it was about who Jesus is.  You see, for you to receive your miracle, you need to understand Jesus is.  You need to understand that Jesus is the Son of God.  And all the power of God rests in Jesus.  He is the son of God. What did Jesus spit say about Him?  You see the blind man could not see what Jesus was doing. I see the crowd wondering what Jesus was doing; the blind man must have heard Jesus spit on the ground; he heard the sound of spit. I believe he knew what was happening.

I believe if somebody said Jesus has spat on the ground, I believe the blind man would have said ‘yes I want that, I want to see, let him spit.”  Sometimes I wonder if what we need in church today is more of Jesus spit.  May be we could write a song about it. I do not know if it would be popular.  Our attitude needs to be the same as that of the blind man in order to see God’s miracles manifest; no matter what the cost.  How much do you want your miracle, how much do you want healing?  IN Australia we have disabled parking and they put it near the entrance so you do not have to walk so far and to park in it you need to have a sticker.  This sticker comes with a report from a doctor saying you are disabled.  When Jesus heals a disabled person and the doctor finds out, you have to take off the sticker.  I know people who do not want to be healed because they do not want to walk so far into the shopping center.  They’d rather stay sick.  Some people want to stay sick.  But we need to have people who want to get healed no matter what it will cost them!!  Are we willing to get healed no matter what it costs us?

When Jesus says all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me, what authority does He mean? He means ALL authority and he has it on heaven and earth. It has been given to him because He is the heir of God.  He has authority over every disease, curse or devil. Galatians 4:7 says you are no longer a slave abut a son and if a son then an heir with God.  So if you are a Christian, you are an heir of God.  That is why when you are baptized with the Holy Spirit, you receive that authority.  You can touch someone and they get healed.  You can look at a devil and tell it to go and it cannot argue with you because you have the authority.  When you know who you are in God, you walk with authority.  You may not have a big gun by your side but you have the Holy Spirit within you and you can walk with the authority of God.

When we come back to the blind man; Jesus spat on the ground, smeared the mud onto the blind man and then told him “go and wash”.  Have you ever thought about that; how did the blind man know where to go?  He could not see!!  First he was blind, and then mud was added onto his eyes so he typically could not see!!  Even a man with good vision would not see with mud in his eyes.  But Jesus said to the blind man, go and wash, and he went and washed in the pool.  How did he know where to go? I’ll tell you how he know, he was not walking by sight.   He did not his sight to know where to go because he had the word of Christ and he walked and washed in the pool.  And the whole curse was cleansed from his life. Alleluia!

He blind man responded in faith to the word of Jesus.  He went and washed in the pool of Siloam and the curse was cleansed.  Tonight you too can wash in the pool of living water and the curse will leave you.  Jesus said I am the living water. You need to respond in faith.  The faith of the blind man gives Spiritual insight!!  Walk with that spiritual insight and know where to go.
